The hardwood beams used to make the two bench seats were once part of the original Pakihi stream bridge, that was a vital part of Pakihi Track.

In 2021, volunteers salvaged the timber from the stream bed, and in early-2022 brought it up onto the track to turn into the bench seats.

The timber has deliberately had no finishing. It's weathered by 110 years and still has bolts and holes.

In time we will develop permanent interpretation signage, including an artist's rendition of the original bridge.

The seats are about 6km from Pakihi Road end, not far from the new shelter.

Make sure you pause — and take a quick rest on history!
