2023 upcoming Dunes Trail planting days: Sunday 11 and 25 June. The 11 June planting will start from Hukuwai beach parking area, 3km east of Opotiki (there will be signs by SH35). Light rain won’t stop planting, but if the weather is very bad, check the Motu Trails Facebook page for cancellations.

The first 2023 planting day on 28 May was a real success with 35 people digging in. Thank you to all who helped!

Planting days have been held along the Dunes Trail since soon after the trail was formed. Over a 12-year period, hundreds of volunteers have dug in close to 30,000 trees and plants, many of which are now thriving.

Planting days are supported by the Trust and Whakatohea Tiaki Taiao, with trees and plants provided by Bay of Plenty Regional Council.

Everyone is welcome to the planting days. There will be at least 500 trees and plants to dig in each day.

Each planting will start from 9.30am.

The next planting day will start from Hukuwai beach parking area.

Planters are asked to wear covered shoes or boots. Bring a spade if you have one, though there will be some available. A BBQ will be held afterwards.
