Air

Whakatane has an airport, served by [Air Chathams] flights from Auckland. From Auckland you can connect around the country and internationally.

Gisborne, Tauranga and Rotorua have airports, served by [Air New Zealand].

Bus services

Intercity. Bus service travels every day from Gisborne > Opotiki > Whakatane > Kawerau > Rotorua and return.

Bikes can be booked on this service at a cost of $10 per bike, paid on loading onto the bus. It is up to the driver to decide if a bike can fit. If bus storage is full a bike may not be accepted. For this reason, be there early for check in. Intercity tickets can be booked and managed at any i-SITE, including [Opotiki i-SITE] and Gisborne, or you can visit Intercity for online bookings.

Naked Bus. Bus service travels every day from Gisborne > Opotiki > Whakatane > Kawerau > Rotorua and return. Naked Bus can be booked at the [Opotiki i-SITE] or online at [Naked Bus]. It is difficult to book a bike on the Naked Bus to/from Opotiki as they often only have a mini-bus with trailer for luggage.

Bay Hopper. The Bay Hopper travels Monday and Wednesday. It goes Whakatane > Opotiki > Whakatane > Tauranga > Opotiki. Bikes cannot be taken on this service. There are no bookings: passengers pay as they board. The fare is just $14.50 to Tauranga and vice versa. Gold card holders can travel free on the Hopper between 9am and 3pm. Tauranga-Gisborne courier. The courier can carry one passenger. The courier travels Tauranga > Opotiki > Gisborne > Opotiki > Tauranga. Call 027 492 1942 or contact [Opotiki i-SITE]
